In double-boat operations, two fishing boats each carry one end of the net, sailing back to back around the fish school for a week to surround the fish. In single-boat operations, a board connected to one end of the net is first released, then the other end of the net is carried for a week, and the net is gathered at the board. Net fishing boats have a relatively short length, shallow draft, low freeboard, and good maneuverability. With the development of larger fishing gear, higher main masts, and lifting gear are required, especially since the fishing personnel gather on one side during hauling, requiring high stability.
A net fishing boat is a type of vessel primarily used for catching rapidly moving upper-level fish schools in the ocean. These boats can operate singly or in pairs. When a fish school is detected, a long belt-shaped fishing gear is cast around the school, and the bottom cable of the gear is tightened to turn the net into a large pocket, capturing the fish within the net.
